Cheslin Kolbe has signed with the Stormers through to the end of 2029, ending his stint in Japan to return to Cape Town. The deal, reportedly facilitated by a triple-pronged approach from the Stormers, his agency Roc Nation and SportyBet, was the subject of heavy speculation before being confirmed.
"Cape Town and this team have played such a big role in my life and career. When I left, it was always with the hope that one day I would come back home," Kolbe said. He cited belief in the club's Project 2029 vision as central to his decision, adding that he wants to contribute "on and off the field" and help create "more special moments for the people of Cape Town."
Kolbe made 49 appearances for the Stormers in his first stint before moving to Toulon and subsequently Japan. He will be 34 when his new contract expires.
John Dobson welcomed the signing by pointing to Kolbe's influence beyond match days, noting he will provide a model of discipline, conditioning and professionalism for the franchise's emerging talent. Dobson also referenced the broader picture of iconic Stormers players returning, with Kolbe joining Siya Kolisi and Wilco Louw — arriving from the Sharks and Bulls respectively — as high-profile recruits ahead of next season.
