The Springbok Sevens will defend their HSBC SVNS Cape Town title on 5 and 6 December, with World Rugby confirming the full schedule for the 2027 season on Wednesday. DHL Stadium will again host the second stop on the world series, a week after the season opens in Dubai.
The Blitzboks arrive at the event as back-to-back home champions and as holders of both the HSBC SVNS Series title and the World Championship from 2026. A hat-trick of Cape Town titles is the target. Tristan Leyds, named HSBC SVNS World Men's Player of the Year for 2026, is among several Western Cape players in the squad, a factor that traditionally boosts local support at DHL Stadium.
The 2027 season retains the same six core hosting cities as the previous series, with the World Championship returning to Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux. Olympic qualification points add a further layer of significance to the campaign, with the 2028 Los Angeles Games now firmly in view for competing nations.
Tickets for the Cape Town event go on sale soon, with supporters encouraged to register for updates.
The 2026 season drew more than 530,000 fans across the world series — a 21 per cent increase on 2025 — while Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Park set a new single-day attendance record of 41,457 on the way to a tournament total of 113,395. The series also surpassed one billion social media impressions for the second consecutive year, with digital engagement up 60 per cent and player followings growing by more than 13 per cent year-on-year.
