The Springbok Sevens will defend their HSBC SVNS Cape Town title on 5 and 6 December at DHL Stadium, with World Rugby confirming the full 2027 season schedule on Wednesday. A hat-trick of home titles is on the line for the Blitzboks, who claimed both the HSBC SVNS Series and the World Championship in 2026.
Cape Town again serves as the second stop on the world series, a week after the season opener in Dubai. The same six host cities from the 2026 series return, with the World Championship again held across Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux.
This year's Cape Town leg carries an additional layer of significance, with LA 2028 Olympic qualification points now in play. Eight men's and eight women's teams will compete across the weekend.
Tristan Leyds, named HSBC SVNS World Men's Player of the Year for 2026, is among several Western Cape players in the Blitzboks squad — a factor expected to sharpen local interest in an event that routinely sells out.
The 2026 series drew more than 530,000 fans globally, a 21 per cent increase on 2025. Hong Kong set a new single-day attendance record of 41,457 at Kai Tak Sports Park, with total crowds at that stop reaching 113,395. HSBC SVNS surpassed one billion social media impressions for a second consecutive season, with digital engagement up 60 per cent year-on-year.
