The Blitzboks have advanced to the final of the HSBC Sevens World Championship in Valladolid after beating Argentina 19-7 in a physical, high-quality semifinal on Sunday.
Sebastian Jobb opened the scoring by breaking a tackle, but Argentina hit back immediately through Santiago Vera Feld, who finished off an end-to-end move involving a series of offloads under pressure. Argentina carried that lead into the break after a crucial tackle denied Selvyn Davids what appeared a certain score late in the first half.
The second half belonged entirely to the Blitzboks. Ricardo Duarttee put them ahead with a try that mirrored Argentina's ambition — stepping through virtually the entire defence — and Ryan Oosthuizen sealed the result with a late score to complete the 19-7 victory.
The Blitzboks will face Australia in the final, with the chance to avenge a pool-stage defeat earlier in the tournament. Australia reached the final by beating Fiji 21-14 in the other semifinal, their first World Championship final appearance. South Africa beat Argentina in the inaugural World Championship tournament in Hong Kong last month.
The final is scheduled for 16h26 CAT and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
