Werner Kok has signed a one-year deal with Newcastle Red Bulls, joining the Premiership club following his departure from Ulster. The 33-year-old winger becomes the 31st player confirmed for the club's 2026/27 squad, with incoming head coach Dan McFarland praising his finishing ability and work rate around the contact area.
Kok's arrival coincides with speculation that Fehi Fineanganofo will not take up his deal at Kingston Park after being included in Dave Rennie's All Blacks squad for the Nations Championship.
Beyond his 29 tries in 76 URC appearances for the Sharks and Ulster, Kok won the World Sevens Player of the Year award during his BlitzBoks career and collected Commonwealth Games gold and Olympic bronze medals.
McFarland described Kok as "technically excellent around the contact area, a ruthless finisher" who plays with the "high energy, physicality and optimism" the club is looking to build on. Pre-season begins next month.
Kok joins a squad that already includes Hoskins Sotutu, Raffi Quirke, Elliot Millar Mills, Franco Molina and Chris Harris.
