Werner Kok has signed for Newcastle Red Bulls on a one-year contract, joining the Gallagher Premiership club after two seasons with Ulster, where he made 35 appearances and scored 12 tries in 19 outings last season.

The 33-year-old arrives with a substantial 15s record behind him — 29 tries in 76 URC matches and eight more in 18 European appearances — including a role in the Sharks' 2024 EPCR Challenge Cup triumph.

Newcastle's incoming head coach Dan McFarland welcomed the signing: "Werner is a proven try-scorer and highly experienced winger who will complement an already-exciting group of back-three players. He is technically excellent around the contact area, a ruthless finisher and plays with the kind of high energy, physicality and optimism that we as a group want to develop."

Kok, who accumulated over a century of tries on the World Sevens Series and holds Commonwealth Games gold and Olympic bronze medals from his BlitzBoks career, said he is eager to contribute to a fresh start at the club. Pre-season is due to get underway next month.
