Wales head coach Steve Tandy has called up hooker Elliot Dee and lock Freddie Thomas ahead of Saturday's Nations Championship Round Three clash against the Springboks at Kings Park in Durban.
The moves are driven largely by concern over captain Dewi Lake, who is carrying a groin injury sustained during Wales's 35-21 defeat to Argentina in San Juan. Should Lake fail to pass fit, Ryan Elias is expected to start at hooker with Jac Morgan assuming the captaincy.
Thomas, 24, offers additional flexibility in the forward pack through his ability to cover the loose forwards.
