Steve Tandy has named Dewi Lake as Wales captain for the Nations Championship, confirming the hooker's position ahead of Jac Morgan after the Lions flanker's shoulder injury ruled him out of contention.

Morgan dislocated his left shoulder while scoring a try against Argentina in November 2025 — the first match of the Tandy era — and Lake stepped in as skipper for the remainder of that international window and through this year's Six Nations. Wales face Fiji, Argentina and South Africa in the Nations Championship, preceded by a non-cap clash with the Barbarians at Twickenham on Saturday.

Lake and Morgan, both heading to Gloucester after leaving the Ospreys, previously co-captained Wales at the 2023 World Cup under Warren Gatland. Lake was measured about the appointment, acknowledging Morgan's misfortune. "Jac's an incredible leader, he's been unlucky with injury otherwise he'd still be in this role," he said.

Wales enter the tournament with some momentum after ending a three-year Six Nations winless run with victory over Italy in March, having also produced competitive displays against Scotland and Ireland.
