Morne van den Berg is looking forward to running out at FNB Stadium for the first time in Test rugby when the Springboks face the All Blacks in the third and final match of the Castle Double Malt Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series on Saturday.
Van den Berg made his Lions debut at the Johannesburg venue, making Saturday's occasion particularly meaningful. "I'm very excited to play a Test in Johannesburg at the FNB Stadium," he said on Wednesday. "We trained there this week and it's an amazing stadium. The whole team is buzzing and excited. With close to 90,000 supporters there, it's going to be incredible."
The Lions scrumhalf, known as 'Krappies' to his teammates, came off the bench in last weekend's 33-26 win over New Zealand in Cape Town — his first Test against the All Blacks. "It was a really cool experience — they are one of the best sides in the world, and to experience that intensity first hand was great."
On the scrum, which has been a talking point throughout the week, Van den Berg was candid: "I'm probably the wrong guy to ask technical scrum questions. I play what's in front of me and as a back the boys have a job to do."
Should he come off the bench again on Saturday, he will earn his ninth Test cap. Kickoff at FNB Stadium is at 17h10, with the match live on SuperSport.
