Nike and SA Rugby have unveiled a limited-edition Springbok jersey for the Castle Double Malt Rugby's Greatest Rivalry Tour, with the shirt going on sale on Thursday, 6 August ahead of the first of four Tests against the All Blacks — the first Test series between the two nations in 30 years.
The centrepiece of the design is a tone-on-tone graphic featuring the lyrics of Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika printed in the shape of the South African flag, incorporating all five languages of the anthem — Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Afrikaans, and English.
SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer said Nike had developed "a design that speaks directly and honestly to the motivation of the team and management — they play for the people of South Africa and wear their hearts on their sleeve; now they will wear the words of the anthem on their chests."
The jersey is built on Nike's FIT ADV platform and will be exclusive to the four Greatest Rivalry Tests, with no wider release planned beyond the series.
