Segner ruled out of All Blacks' remaining SA tour matches after ankle surgery

Anton Segner is out of the All Blacks' remaining South Africa tour fixtures after ankle surgery, with coach Dave Rennie opting against a replacement call-up.

Anton Segner has been ruled out of the remainder of New Zealand's South Africa tour after undergoing keyhole surgery on his ankle. The flanker was a late withdrawal from the All Blacks' match-day squad ahead of the first Test at Ellis Park following complaints of a swollen ankle, subsequently diagnosed as acute inflammatory arthritis.

Coach Dave Rennie confirmed the surgery was required to clean out the ankle, and that Segner will travel with the squad to Cape Town but take no further part in the tour. Rennie ruled out calling up a replacement, satisfied the squad carries sufficient loose forward cover for the three remaining Tests in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Baltimore.

The All Blacks have been unbeaten on tour, defeating four provincial sides before overcoming the Springboks 33-16 at Ellis Park.
