SARU has cut ticket prices for Saturday's Nations Championship opener against England at Ellis Park after more than 30,000 seats remained unsold by Thursday.
Standard seating that was priced between R950 and R3,000 earlier in the week is now available from R650, with prime seats dropping to R950. Hospitality packages had been listed from around R7,895. SARU's stated target is 90 percent capacity at the 62,000-seater stadium.
In acknowledging the slow uptake, SARU cited multiple factors — among them the ongoing Iran conflict — alongside broader concerns about the Doornfontein precinct surrounding Ellis Park, where urban decay, crime and safety issues have increasingly deterred supporters from attending matches at the venue.
