Carlu Sadie has signed a one-year contract extension with Bordeaux-Bègles, keeping him at the club through the end of the 2029 Top 14 season, as he prepares for what is expected to be his first Test cap against Wales this weekend.

The tighthead's path to a Bok debut has been far from straightforward. A serious neck injury derailed his planned move to the Bulls during the Jake White era, but his subsequent signing with Bordeaux in 2023 proved transformative — culminating in a Champions Cup winners medal and a call-up to the Springbok squad this season. He had a prior taste of the green and gold in the non-cap match against the Barbarians.

His performances in France were enough to convince the Bok coaching staff, and he now looks set to earn his first official cap against Wales before committing his club future to Bordeaux for another season.
