Rassie Erasmus has pointed to SA Rugby's player development pipeline as the foundation for the Springboks' depth, following an 80-31 win over the Barbarians at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday in which the Boks ran in 12 tries.

Erasmus named five uncapped players in the matchday 23, with Junior Bok captain Riley Norton and loosehead prop Carlu Sadie starting, while JJ Kotze, Paul de Villiers and Vusi Moyo came off the bench. One-cap flyhalf Quan Horn was the standout selection, with Horn's defensive read leading to the only blemish — a try conceded when a runner got past him early — but Erasmus was otherwise complimentary.

"I think there is so much talent, and that's credit to SA Rugby and the pipeline," Erasmus said. "When there are guys coming to us, they are really calm. So when we don't do well, we can never say it's SA Rugby's fault — then it's a coaching problem."

He singled out Norton's ability to play the full 80 minutes, praised Moyo's composure, and noted that Evan Roos performed well. Faf de Klerk, returning to the national set-up for the first time since the Georgia Test earlier in 2025, also drew a positive mention despite limited game time.

Erasmus described the collective temperament of the younger players as unusual for their age group. "There is a maturity about them that I have not seen in 18 or 19 year olds before. They are not intimidated by game plans and sitting in sessions, and I think that filters through to the older guys."

Erasmus had included 21 uncapped players in his extended 51-man squad for the Gqeberha double-header, with the immediate task now to trim that group to 45.

On the Bulls' 7-36 URC Final defeat to Leinster at Croke Park — a second consecutive final loss at the same venue — and what franchise form means for Springbok selections, Erasmus was measured. Asked specifically about Handré Pollard, he declined to read too much into a difficult stretch of club rugby. "It's difficult to talk about franchise form. Handré didn't shoot lights out, but we know what he can do — why would he do badly all of a sudden? Is there an injury, is there not an injury. Maybe he just hasn't done well for two weeks."
