SA Rugby will conduct a thorough review of its ticketing framework at the end of the 2026 season, with any adjustments to take effect from 2027. Union president Mark Alexander acknowledged concerns about current pricing on Monday, stating that certain categories require revision while defending the organisation's broader commercial approach.
Alexander was direct in pushing back against accusations of greed, noting that SA Rugby recorded a financial loss in 2025. "Our commercial strategies are designed to cover the cost of running rugby in South Africa, not to increase profits," he said, framing ticket revenue as essential to the sport's financial viability rather than a profit-generating exercise.
The announcement comes during the inaugural Nations Championship, with Alexander using the occasion to thank supporters for their loyalty. He acknowledged the tension between accessibility and sustainability: "It is a delicate balance, but one we are determined to manage responsibly."
