Shiniqwa Lamprecht arrives in Fiji as one of two uncapped players in the Springbok Women squad, alongside fellow sevens player Maria Tshiremba, with the prospect of a first Test cap when South Africa face the Fijiana XV in Suva on 8 August — the first-ever Test between the two sides.
The 23-year-old Pretoria native brings considerable international experience to the tour despite her uncapped fifteens status, having featured in 21 Springbok Women's Sevens tournaments. Among her standout moments was the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she was on the field as South Africa beat Fiji 21-15 in the 11th-place match at the Stade de France.
Lamprecht's route to this point has been unconventional. After representing the Junior Springbok Women against Zimbabwe in 2023, she was drafted into the sevens set-up rather than progressing directly through the fifteens pathway, spending two full seasons there before returning to the longer format. She credits that period with significant development: improved conditioning, sharper defensive skills and the kind of soft skills that the breakdown pace of sevens demands.
An inside centre by trade with the Isuzu Bulls Daisies, Lamprecht is among the midfield options for the coaching staff to consider across both Tests. She has studied the Fijiana's game closely and identifies their offloading and wide-to-wide style as the key tactical challenge, advocating for sustained defensive pressure to funnel them into South Africa's defensive channels.
The squad faces a demanding travel schedule to reach Suva, but Lamprecht's emphasis is firmly on collective focus over personal milestones.
The two-Test series runs as follows:
First Test — Saturday 8 August, HFC Bank Stadium, Suva (04h00 SA time) Second Test — Saturday 15 August, Churchill Park, Lautoka (05h00 SA time)
