Luan Giliomee's red card from the Junior World Championship semifinal against England has been dismissed following a full disciplinary hearing on Thursday, clearing him to feature in the final.
The Foul Play Review Committee initially referred the matter — a Law 9.17 contact-in-the-air offence — to a Disciplinary Committee rather than offering a standard sanction. The committee, chaired by Helen Morgan and joined by former Springboks Stefan Terblanche and Christopher Morgan, determined the incident did not constitute foul play and dismissed the red card entirely.
Of the five red cards reviewed from JWC matches on July 12 and 13, Giliomee's was the only one rescinded. England's Seb Kelly received the heaviest sanction — six matches — for a head-butt contrary to Law 9.12. Ireland's Harry Waters and Wales' Luke Evans were each suspended for three matches, reduced to two on completion of the Coaching Intervention, while USA's Alfie Booth received two matches, reduced to one under the same condition.
