The Springboks have named reaching the Nations Championship Final at Twickenham on 29 November as their tournament goal, with assistant coach Mzwandile Stick emphasising the competition's added stakes when the southern and northern legs are combined.
"We want to play in the Final game at the end of the tour at Twickenham," Stick said. "The fact that it's linked together gives us an even bigger challenge and a goal."
South Africa currently lead the southern hemisphere standings on 10 points after wins over England and Scotland, with New Zealand level on points in second. Ireland lead the northern standings ahead of France. The Boks host Wales at Kings Park on Saturday in the final round of the southern leg.
Stick identified Wales's breakdown work as the primary area of concern, pointing specifically to the loose trio of Aaron Wainwright, Jac Morgan and Alex Mann. "Breakdown-wise, I know they're going to challenge us because they're very strong — they've got good players who are specialists in that area," he said. He also flagged Welsh set-piece organisation as a threat, noting that Wales take considerable pride in that facet despite their struggles against Argentina last weekend.
On the injury front, Stick confirmed Siya Kolisi trained with the squad for the first time since his hamstring complaint and that Canan Moodie is also back on the training paddock. No changes to the match-day 23 are anticipated.
