Bristol Bears centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg, a former South Africa U20 player, has been named in England's 42-man training squad ahead of the Nations Championship. The former London Irish midfielder qualifies for England on residency grounds after five years in the UK, with his eligibility confirmed from 8 July.
That timing rules him out of England's Test against the Springboks on 4 July but clears him to feature against Fiji the following weekend at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium — potentially on debut.
Janse van Rensburg was selected ahead of Bath centres Ollie Lawrence and Max Ojomoh, both of whom were omitted from the squad. England are also considering resting Maro Itoje and other senior players for the series.
