CANAL+ Group has confirmed a broadcast agreement with World Rugby to air the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 and Women's Rugby World Cup 2029 live on SuperSport across Sub-Saharan Africa, with the announcement coinciding with the French group's listing on the JSE following its acquisition of MultiChoice.
DStv and GOtv subscribers will have access to the full men's tournament in Australia (1 October – 13 November 2027), which expands to 24 teams and introduces a round of 16 for the first time. The Springboks enter as back-to-back champions chasing a fifth Webb Ellis Cup, while Zimbabwe returns to the competition for the first time since 1991.
On the women's side, England — the RWC 2025 champions — headline the 2029 field. The Springbok Women reached the quarter-finals at RWC 2025, the first African side to do so, and will be looking to build on that in 2029.
The agreement also covers the World Rugby Junior World Championship and the Pacific Nations Cup.
Separately, CANAL+ confirmed that SuperSport has renewed its exclusive URC broadcast rights on a multi-year basis.
