New Zealand have displaced South Africa at the summit of the World Rugby rankings after their 33-16 victory over the Springboks at Ellis Park. The All Blacks gained 1.75 rating points from the win — the maximum available given the 17-point winning margin — while South Africa lost the same tally, leaving New Zealand on 94.03 and the Springboks on 92.21, a gap of 1.82 points.

New Zealand ran in five tries to one, with Will Jordan crossing twice and Josh Moorby, Fabian Holland and Luke Jacobson also scoring. André Esterhuizen dotted down South Africa's only try, with Cheslin Kolbe accounting for the rest of the Boks' points with the boot.

The two sides meet again in Cape Town next weekend, with the top ranking back on the line — a Springbok victory of any margin would be sufficient to reclaim first place.
