The penultimate round of Pick n Pay Women Super League 2 pool matches on Saturday 8 August has three semi-final places effectively still to be decided, with the Hollywood Foundation Pumas Women already confirmed as pool winners and the Limpopo Blue Bulls eliminated.

Griquas backed up their form with a commanding 73-15 win over Limpopo in Kimberley, their biggest score of the season. Wing Maserati Bangaza finished with four tries and prop Nicole van Wyk crossed for a hat-trick — an unusual haul for a loosehead. Centre Jennielee van Nel also dotted down as Griquas led 27-5 at half-time before scoring 46 points in a dominant second period. The win lifts Griquas to second on the log with an average score of 42-25, and another victory this weekend against SWD at Greenhaven Stadium in Groot-Brakrivier would secure them a home semi-final in Kimberley.

The Pumas, meanwhile, have been ruthless all season, averaging 54-16 across five matches. They host the Valke at White River Rugby Club on Saturday, and while the East Rand side need the win to keep their season alive — averaging just 27-37 — overturning the defending champions on their home ground represents a near-impossible task.

The most finely balanced contest of the round is at Olën Park in Potchefstroom, where the Leopards host the Griffons in a match that could eliminate either side. The Leopards are still stinging from last weekend's defeat at the same venue, where they led Griquas at half-time only to concede a late try. The Griffons, who travel from Welkom, showed considerable resolve in their most recent outing — trailing before scoring three unanswered second-half tries to take a 31-21 lead. The Leopards clawed it back to 31-28 through Mtshweni's third try of the match, but scrumhalf Pinkie Touto's penalty kick edged the Griffons to a 34-28 victory, with Mtshweni's converted try coming too late. A win on Saturday would cement Griffons in the top four and, depending on other results, could see them rise to third.

All three matches kick off simultaneously at 13h00 on Saturday 8 August.
