Cobus and Jasper Wiese joined a select group of Springbok siblings on Saturday, becoming the 37th pair of brothers to represent South Africa in the same Test as the Boks dismantled Wales 43-0 in their Nations Championship Round Three fixture at Kings Park Stadium.
Jasper set the tone with a try in the fifth minute and was relentless throughout, finishing with 10 carries and nine tackles. Cobus, 29, was equally prominent before his 47th-minute departure — making two line breaks, carrying eight times and playing a direct role in Jaco Williams' try.
The moment nearly came a year earlier, but injuries and selection prevented it. On Saturday it finally materialised, and the brothers' embrace on the sideline after both were replaced in the second half underlined what it meant.
Sprringbok captain Pieter-Steph du Toit, who has shared a Test field with his own brother Johan, offered perspective on the achievement. "For brothers to both play for the Springboks is a huge honour. Their parents must be extremely proud of them, and they're proud of each other. They've worked incredibly hard to get where they are."
The Wiese brothers grew up on a farm in the Northern Cape, where the physical demands of farm life laid the foundation for the power and durability that define both their games.
