Steve Tandy has named an extended 48-man Wales squad for the Nations Championship in July, which includes a fixture against the Springboks alongside tests against Fiji and Argentina. Six uncapped players feature in the group, with the squad also opening the tour against the Barbarians in an uncapped fixture.

The most eye-catching selection is Exeter Chiefs back-rower Kane James, who has represented England U20s over the past two seasons but qualifies for Wales through his Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire roots. Rhys Barratt, Harrison Keddie, Ryan Woodman, Ben Warren and back Bryn Bradley are the other uncapped inclusions.

Tandy is also boosted by the return of Lions tourist Jac Morgan, who missed the Six Nations through injury, and Leicester Tigers flanker Tommy Reffell, absent from both the Autumn Nations Series and Six Nations squads.

Tandy explained the size of the group by pointing to staggered club release dates, with some players not joining until 27 June. A trimmed squad will be confirmed after the Barbarians game. Wales have yet to name a tour captain, with Morgan, Dewi Lake and Dafydd Jenkins all having led the side in recent campaigns.
