Van Heerden called up as Moerat injury forces Springbok change

Ruben van Heerden has been called into the Springbok squad to replace the injured Salmaan Moerat, joining camp in Johannesburg ahead of the season opener against the Barbarians on 20 June.

Ruben van Heerden has been added to the Springbok squad and will join the group in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening, replacing Salmaan Moerat, who has been released from camp due to injury.

The Stormers lock, 28, has been one of the cornerstones of their URC pack this season and reached his 50th cap for the Cape franchise during the campaign. Van Heerden, who previously represented the Bulls, Sharks and Exeter Chiefs, joins Phepsi Buthelezi and Carlu Sadie — both called up on Monday — who have already reported for duty.

The Boks open their season against the Barbarians on 20 June at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha (15h00), preceded by the SA 'A' side's clash against Zimbabwe at the same venue (12h00). Rassie Erasmus and Mzwandile Stick, who will coach the SA 'A' team, will name their respective matchday squads next week.
