SA Rugby and Canal+ have renewed their multi-year domestic broadcast rights agreement, keeping SuperSport as the sole official broadcast rights holder for all SARU domestic competitions as well as Springbok Women's and junior age-group matches across sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership between SuperSport and SA Rugby stretches back more than 30 years, to their first agreement in the 1990s.
SARU president Mark Alexander described the conclusion of the deal — the first formally struck with the combined MultiChoice Group and Canal+ Group — as the product of "a thorough and extensive series of engagements," expressing confidence it would be the first of several such agreements.
SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer stressed the structural importance of the arrangement: "Broadcasting rights are fundamental to the health and sustainability of sport in South Africa and rugby is no different."
Canal+ Africa CEO David Mignot framed the renewal within a broader continental investment strategy, while Canal+ director for sports content Rendani Ramovha called it "a victory for DStv viewers and subscribers" and reaffirmed the group's commitment to delivering top-tier sports coverage to the South African market.
