The Stormers suffered a 17-13 defeat to Edinburgh at Hive Stadium in Round Two of the URC, with a costly lineout malfunction and a first-half concussion to André-Hugo Venter casting a shadow over the result.

Venter departed in the 22nd minute after failing to roll away from a breakdown — the same incident that handed Edinburgh their opening penalty through James Grayson — and is now in doubt for next weekend's clash against the Sharks. Replacement hooker Vernon Paulo struggled badly at the set piece, losing six lineouts across the match, including three in the second half that proved critical in the closing stages.

Edinburgh dominated territory 87-13 in the first half, though the Stormers' defence kept the scoreboard tight. Yaqeen Ahmed levelled with a penalty after initially missing a straightforward kick, and the visitors went ahead early in the second half when Ahmed slotted two penalties in quick succession to make it 6-3.

The match turned against the Stormers in the 57th minute. Paulo threw a lineout into touch, Jerry Blyth-Lafferty broke through the resulting Edinburgh possession, and prop Paul Hill finished to give the hosts their first try. Seabelo Senatla was simultaneously yellow-carded for slowing the ball down at the breakdown following Blyth-Lafferty's linebreak, leaving the Stormers a man short.

Edburgh were reduced to 14 minutes later when Freddie Douglas was sin-binned for a similar infringement, and the Stormers made the overlap count — Hacjivah Dayimani picking up from the base of a dominant scrum to score, with Ahmed converting to make it 12-10 to the visitors.

Teenage replacement Rory McHaffie restored Edinburgh's lead in the 72nd minute, Grayson adding the conversion to make it 17-13. The Stormers won a late penalty for contact in the air but could not convert pressure into points, with Paulo again losing possession from a lineout in the dying moments to hand Edinburgh the win.
