South Africa's lead at the top of the World Rugby rankings has been trimmed to 1.28 points after New Zealand's 50-19 first Bledisloe Cup victory over Australia at Eden Park last weekend.

The All Blacks can close that gap further to as little as 0.82 points if they beat the Wallabies by more than 15 points in Saturday's second Test in Sydney. A narrower win would leave the deficit at 0.97 points, keeping South Africa comfortably on 93.09 rating points with New Zealand on 91.81.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Australia's result carries its own significance. A Wallabies win by any margin would end their 12-match losing streak against New Zealand and lift them above England into fifth. A victory by more than 15 points would take them above France into fourth. A New Zealand win, conversely, drops Australia from sixth to seventh, with Scotland moving up.
