South Africa claimed a 42-28 victory over Scotland at altitude in Pretoria, taking maximum points in the Nations Championship while the Scots earned a losing bonus point with four tries.
Scotland were sharp and dangerous throughout, their pace and handling repeatedly exposing the Springbok defence, but South Africa's physicality proved the decisive factor — as it so often does at altitude. The Boks were particularly dominant in the middle passages of each half, scoring five of their six tries in those periods.
Scotland matched them score for score in the opening and closing quarters, crossing twice in the second and twice in the fourth, and with 10 minutes remaining they had the losing bonus point in sight and looked capable of adding more. Jesse Kriel's late try ended that threat, leaving Scotland with only the one consolation point.
