South Africa claimed a full five-point haul at Loftus Versfeld, beating Scotland 42-28 in their Nations Championship clash despite a spirited four-try performance from the visitors.
The Boks dominated the middle portions of each half, scoring five of their six tries during those periods, but Scotland showed genuine quality in the opening and closing quarters, running in two tries apiece to stay in contention. With 10 minutes remaining, Scotland were within reach of a losing bonus point, only for Jesse Kriel's try to push the margin beyond seven and deny them the fourth point — before they eventually crossed again to claim it regardless.
The altitude in Pretoria remained a factor throughout a breathless contest, but Scotland's pace and ball-handling regularly exposed the Springbok defence. It was the Boks' set-piece power and physicality, however, that proved the decisive difference.
