Babalwa Latsha has been ruled out of the Springbok Women's two-Test WXV Global Series against Ireland with an ankle injury, with Sizophila Solontsi stepping up to captain the side for both matches in Cape Town on October 24 and 31.
Latsha was withdrawn from the squad on Saturday at the conclusion of the Stellenbosch training camp. Solontsi, who co-captained the side alongside Unam Tose against Italy last month, will lead the team in what will be the first Tests between South Africa and Ireland on home soil. Tose has been named vice-captain for the series.
Nombuyekezo Mdliki is also absent, having failed to recover from the rib injury she sustained against Spain earlier this month. Thandile Mazwi and uncapped Anothando Katshwa have been drafted in as replacements — Mazwi's last Test appearance came off the bench against Fiji in Suva in August. Anuschka Ekron, part of the Rugby Africa Women's Cup squad, will also join the group for training during the week.
