Solontsi steps up as Bok Women captain for Ireland Tests after Latsha injury blow

Sizophila Solontsi takes over the Springbok Women captaincy for the two WXV Tests against Ireland after Babalwa Latsha is ruled out with an ankle injury, with Nombuyekezo Mdliki also unavailable due to a rib injury.

Sizophila Solontsi takes over the Springbok Women captaincy for the remaining two WXV Global Series Tests against Ireland — in Cape Town on 24 and 31 October — after Babalwa Latsha was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Solontsi, who co-captained the side alongside Unam Tose during last month's Italy Tests, will lead the team again with Tose named vice-captain. The two matches will be the first internationals between South Africa and Ireland played on South African soil.

Latsha was withdrawn from the squad on Saturday at the conclusion of the team's training camp in Stellenbosch. Also confirmed out is Nombuyekezo Mdliki, who has failed to recover from the rib injury she sustained against Spain earlier this month. Replacements for both players are expected to be announced Monday.
