The Sharks return from Cardiff with five log points but a significant injury concern after losing four players during their 36-21 URC victory over Cardiff on Friday.
Captain André Esterhuizen was the first to go, leaving the field in the opening minute after an awkward landing from an aerial contest. He was later seen on crutches with his right foot in a moon boot, though head coach JP Pietersen withheld specifics on the severity. Phatu Ganyane followed shortly after with an elbow injury, Jurenzo Julius was withdrawn at half-time, and Jason Jenkins went off early in the second half.
"We had four injuries in very quick succession," Pietersen said. The Sharks will provide a full injury update on Sunday and are expected to bring in cover.
The result itself required a strong finish. Cardiff led 21-17 in the 60th minute, with the Sharks playing into the wind, before Pietersen's side scored three unanswered tries to close out a six-try performance. Matt Romao crossed twice, and Pietersen credited Nick Hatton and Emile van Heerden for their leadership during the difficult middle phase.
"The old Sharks could have lost easily. But we stuck in there," Pietersen said.
The Sharks now travel to Limerick to face Munster, a fixture Pietersen has already flagged as a significant test.
