South Africa 'A' defeated Zimbabwe 40-0 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday, scoring six unanswered tries in a performance that highlighted depth across several positions.

The result was built on a dominant first half. Fly-half Yaqeen Ahmed opened the scoring with a clever dummy before converting his own try, with Markus Muller and Haashim Pead adding further five-pointers to give SA 'A' a 21-0 lead at the break. Zekhethelo Siyaya had two early efforts disallowed — one for a foot in touch, another for offside.

Ahmed's afternoon ended prematurely in the 52nd minute. A yellow card for taking out Zimbabwe's Tapiwa Mafura in the in-goal area while chasing a kick was subsequently upgraded to a 20-minute red card.

SA 'A' were untroubled despite the numerical disadvantage. Replacement scrumhalf Nico Steyn sniped over from close range in the 55th minute, followed by Imad Khan — seconds after coming off the bench — finishing off a Jaco Williams offload. Williams then put the icing on the result with a try directly from a Sables exit kick as the final whistle sounded. Luan Giliomee converted twice in the second half.

Ruben van Heerden earned the match award after making 16 tackles, winning a turnover and carrying nine times. Captain Vincent Tshituka and Emmanuel Tshituka provided experienced ballast up front, while Williams was consistently dangerous in attack throughout.
