Finn Russell is expected to be available for Scotland's Nations Championship clash against the Springboks at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, with Gregor Townsend confirming the flyhalf has come through training without issue.

Russell missed last weekend's 47-38 win over Argentina in Cordoba with a calf injury, with Tom Jordan starting at ten and Fergus Burke contributing off the bench. Townsend indicated the injury concern is now behind them.

"He's definitely over the calf injury," Townsend said on Tuesday. "He trained fine today, and he trained well at the end of last week."

Townsend did note that Russell may not have started against Argentina even if fit, framing the tour as an opportunity to give game time to other options at flyhalf — though he stopped short of naming his starter for Saturday ahead of the Thursday team announcement.

The tour is not without its injury concerns, however. Tighthead prop Elliot Millar Mills has returned home after being forced off early in the Argentina match, replaced by Zander Fagerson. Townsend confirmed no replacement has been called up, pointing to the depth already in the squad.

"The only position we came with more depth was tighthead prop. We are lucky, in a way, to have brought four tightheads out here," he said, with Will Hurd, D'arcy Rae, and Fagerson all training fully.

Scotland arrived in South Africa on Monday and held a light session on Tuesday as preparations for Loftus got underway.
