The Hollywood Foundation Pumas Women have secured a home semifinal in Mbombela with two rounds still to play, after dismantling the SWD Eagirls 44-17 at Nelspruit Rugby Club in Round 5 of the Pick n Pay Women's Super League 2 on Saturday. AVBOB Griquas Women and the Griffons Women also claimed away victories, while the Valke had a bye.
The Pumas, defending champions and unbeaten this season, led 22-3 at halftime after scoring three tries and being awarded a penalty try just before the break. They ran out seven-try winners, with the Eagirls' consolation coming via two late tries in the final five minutes. SWD sit fourth on the log.
Griquas overturned a 14-7 halftime deficit to beat the Leopards 24-19 at Olën Park in Potchefstroom, earning a bonus point that lifts them to second on the log. The Leopards had raced to a 14-0 lead through flyhalf Okuhle Njemla and wing Abrinah Matshoga before Griquas clawed back to 14-7 at the break. Two quick tries early in the second half put the visitors in front, but flanker Martha Yokwane restored the Leopards' lead in the 50th minute. Tighthead prop Nicole van Wyk then crossed for the Griquas forwards to retake the lead, and they held on through a tense final 20 minutes.
The Griffons produced an 80-minute performance to beat the Limpopo Blue Bulls Women 50-21 in Polokwane — their first away win of the campaign. Wing Thato Rantai scored a hat-trick, opening the scoring in the third minute and adding two more late in the second half for 15 points. Scrumhalf Pinky Touto was the standout individual, contributing 20 points with six conversions, a penalty goal and a try of her own. The Griffons led 19-7 at halftime and ran in four more tries after the break.
