The Hollywood Foundation Pumas Women are the only unbeaten side in the Pick n Pay Women's Super League 2 after three rounds, their 44-22 win over Leopards Women in Potchefstroom on Saturday keeping them top of the log. Griquas and Griffons also picked up victories, leaving four sides separated across the standings.
The Pumas were ruthless early, crossing for four tries inside 20 minutes. Fullback Alicia Mahlalela dotted down twice in that opening burst, with Megan Guambe and Jibrine Dube also scoring. Leopards pulled back to 34-15 by halftime after a converted try and a penalty from flyhalf Amzolele Gqola, but inside centre Pauline Sianga finished with a hat-trick to secure the result. Gqola scored a late consolation and ended with 12 points for the Leopards.
In Kimberley, AVBOB Griquas recorded their first win of the season with a commanding 73-15 demolition of Limpopo Blue Bulls. The home side led 27-5 at halftime before an extraordinary second-half display that yielded 46 points. Wing Maserati Bangaza finished with four tries and prop Nicole van Wyk claimed a hat-trick. Limpopo, now winless after three outings, scored the match's final try for consolation.
The most dramatic finish of the round came at Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park, where Griffons edged Valke Women 34-33 on the final play. Valke No 8 Noluyanda Mtshweni completed her hat-trick deep into the second half to put the home side within a point, but Evidence Tinoota's conversion attempt drifted wide and handed Griffons the win. A penalty kicked by Griffons scrumhalf Pinkie Touto had proved the decisive score, putting them 34-28 ahead before Mtshweni's third. It was the second consecutive week Valke lost by a single point due to a missed conversion, having beaten Limpopo the previous round in identical circumstances when their opponents' final kick sailed wide.
