Salmaan Moerat withdrew from the Springboks' starting line-up against Italy with back spasms, Rassie Erasmus confirmed at the post-match press conference following the 66-7 victory in Turin.
Moerat had participated in the warm-up but was pulled before kick-off. Lood de Jager was promoted from the bench to start, with Franco Mostert sliding onto the replacements.
"He had a bit [of spasms] on Thursday, but we thought it would clear up and he looked good at captain's practice," Erasmus said. "Unfortunately, in the warm-up, the back spasms flared up again — hopefully it's not too serious."
Erasmus confirmed Moerat is the squad's only injury concern from the match. The Boks travel to Paris next, where they face France on Saturday.
