Kubota Spears Funabashi Tokyo Bay have confirmed that Malcolm Marx will leave the club when his contract expires in June 2027, ending a six-year stint in Japan. The 82-Test hooker, who won the World Rugby Men's 15-a-Side Player of the Year award during his time with the Spears, cited family circumstances as the primary reason for his return to South Africa.
Marx, 32, will remain fully committed to the Spears for one final League One campaign before heading home. "My commitment to the Spears remains as strong as ever," he said in a farewell statement. "I am fully focused on the upcoming season and will continue to give everything I have to the team, with the goal of finishing this journey on a high note."
Speculation linking Marx to the Bulls has gathered momentum since news of his departure emerged, though no announcement has been made by either party.
