Rassie Erasmus has confirmed that both Siya Kolisi and Cheslin Kolbe are in doubt for Saturday's second Test against the All Blacks at DHL Stadium, with final calls dependent on how they come through Monday's training session.
Kolisi, who missed the Ellis Park opener after picking up a hamstring injury against Argentina, has been named in the starting lineup but remains bracketed with Paul de Villiers at six. If the skipper fails to train, De Villiers starts and Pieter-Steph du Toit retains the captaincy he held in Johannesburg. Should Kolisi come through, he reclaims both his jersey and the armband.
Kolbe sustained more than cramps during the first Test and is rated amber by the coaching staff. Ethan Hooker has been named on the left wing in the interim, with Kurt-Lee Arendse — who cleared his HIA to remain in the squad — moving to the right. Erasmus indicated a late swap involving Kolbe remains possible but unlikely at this stage.
The injury list extends further. Scrum-half Grant Williams is ruled out with an ankle injury, Ben-Jason Dixon is managing concussion symptoms, and Canan Moodie has pulled a hamstring. All three miss the Cape Town Test.
Quan Horn and Boan Venter have been released back to the Lions, where both are set to feature in the Lions' midweek match against the All Blacks on Tuesday.
