Eben Etzebeth will sit out the Springboks' upcoming Nations Championship matches as the management prioritise his long-term welfare following concussion issues. Rassie Erasmus confirmed on Monday that the most-capped Springbok would not feature until the friendly against Argentina on 8 August, citing the lock's concussion history as a key factor in the conservative timeline.

"I think on Eben, we will give him proper time," Erasmus said. "He had a concussion, and he has a bit of a history of concussions, so I don't think Eben will play in these incoming matches. I think we're all targeting Argentina for that."

The news offers some relief on other fronts. Ox Nche, who left the field after 10 minutes in the Boks' last outing with what initially appeared a serious knee problem, is expected to return in time for the Greatest Rivalry Tour against the All Blacks. Erasmus confirmed Nche would miss Scotland, Wales and the Argentina friendly but should resume training three weeks before the New Zealand fixtures. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Morne van den Berg are on a similar recovery path.

Franco Mostert may also be available by the time the squad travels to Buenos Aires, while Lood de Jager could feature against Wales. Captain Siya Kolisi is progressing well, adding further depth to a squad managing multiple injury timelines across a congested international window.
