Rassie Erasmus has urged the Vodacom Bulls to study the Stormers' semifinal performance as they prepare for a second consecutive United Rugby Championship final against Leinster at Croke Park on Friday.

The Springbok coach believes the blueprint for defeating the Irish giants lies in the Stormers' narrow defeat, which exposed weaknesses the Bulls will hope to exploit. "If the Bulls look at what the Stormers did, Leinster are going to be tough; we all know that," Erasmus said. "But if you want to look at a blueprint on how to beat them, without getting a yellow or red card here or there, they can look at the Stormers. They came really close."

The emphasis on discipline is pointed. Last year's 32-7 defeat at the same venue saw the Bulls overwhelmed by a Leinster side that capitalised on South African errors. This time, Ackermann has selected arguably his strongest available side, anchored by a Springbok-laden pack that has bullied opponents throughout the campaign. The front row of Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Johan Grobbelaar and Francois Klopper have become one of the most feared scrummaging units in the competition, while the Bulls' bench has emerged as a major weapon in finishing matches stronger than opponents.

Third time fortunate?

Having lost three URC finals in four seasons, the Pretoria franchise know opportunities like this do not come around often. The challenge remains formidable: Leinster have made three changes from the side that defeated the Stormers, with Ireland internationals Tadhg Furlong and Jimmy O'Brien returning to a starting lineup packed with British and Irish Lions and international experience. Captain Caelan Doris leads a team that will once again rely heavily on scrumhalf Jamison Gibson-Park, widely regarded as one of the world's premier No.9s.

Erasmus's intervention underscores the strategic importance South African rugby places on the United Rugby Championship. The Bulls' ability to translate their domestic dominance into European success would validate the franchise system's investment in depth and conditioning. Whether Ackermann's side can execute the Stormers' blueprint more clinically will determine if the trophy finally travels south.
