Loosehead prop Ethan Burger has signed a contract extension with Exeter Chiefs, committing to the Premiership club through the 2026/27 season.
The 25-year-old, who came through Tuks Rugby and featured in the Blue Bulls Under-21 setup in 2020, joined Exeter at the start of the 2024/25 campaign and made his senior debut against Bristol Bears in October 2025.
Director of Rugby Rob Baxter was fulsome in his assessment of the South African's development. "Ethan is a young, dynamic and powerful prop forward, who is clearly improving with each minute he spends on the field," said Baxter. "He's got the best balance of a modern loosehead where his set-piece is developing all the time, but then he genuinely can move and get on the ball to be a dynamic ball-carrier. We see an awfully bright future for him."
Burger, who was first spotted by Exeter forwards coach Ross McMillan while playing for Tuks, said the decision to remain in Devon was straightforward. "It was an easy decision to stay — I think we're building something really special here at Chiefs. I've already learned so much, but it's only the tip of the iceberg."
Baxter indicated Burger would take on a more prominent role in the seasons ahead as he continues to mature at Premiership level.
