The Bulls have confirmed the signing of Malcolm Marx on a long-term contract, with the hooker set to join the Pretoria franchise from July 2027.

Marx, 32, holds the Springbok record for Test tries by a forward with 29 in 94 caps, and is a two-time Rugby World Cup winner. He has spent the past six years playing franchise rugby in Japan.

The signing reunites Marx with Bulls coach Johan Ackermann, who first worked with him during the Lions' run of three consecutive Super Rugby finals between 2016 and 2018. Ackermann says he first encountered Marx as a 16-year-old at KES and drew early comparisons with Bismarck du Plessis.

"He's one of the hardest workers I coached, someone with great integrity too," said Ackermann. "I am most proud of the man and the person and the husband and son he is for his family."

Marx described the move as "an exciting new chapter" and said he is eager to contribute to the Bulls' trophy ambitions.

Blue Bulls Company CEO Edgar Rathbone called it "a huge moment" for the franchise's supporters, adding that the acquisition — which follows the recent signing of Kwagga Smith — reflects the club's intent to build a title-winning squad.
