The Junior Springboks were welcomed home on Monday by SA Rugby president Mark Alexander following their 16-5 victory over France in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship final in Georgia on Saturday — a result that saw them retain the title they won in Italy with a 23-15 defeat of New Zealand.
Alexander praised the squad's courage, discipline and skill, framing the back-to-back triumph within a broader picture of South African rugby dominance across age groups and formats.
"Winning consecutive world titles at the Under-20 level underscores the promise of a new generation ready to carry the Springbok legacy forward," said Alexander. "With the Springboks having won consecutive Rugby World Cups, our Blitzboks reclaiming the World Rugby Sevens Series championship and now the Junior Boks securing back-to-back world titles, the evidence is clear: our pathways and pipeline are working, strong and healthy."
Alexander credited the collective effort of players, coaches, management and supporters, noting that the inspiration drawn from fans at home and abroad forms a meaningful part of the team's success.
The senior Springboks are next in action on 8 August when they face Argentina in Buenos Aires.
